Email Your Legislators to Oppose Expanding Religious Exemptions for COVID-19 Vaccine

On Monday, November 22, the Kansas Legislature will return to Topeka for an historic Special Session to vote on bills concerning COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Mainstream Coalition strongly opposes the religious exemptions clause in draft bill 22RS235 which undermines our constitutional guarantee of the separation of religion and government by prohibiting an employer from validating the sincerity of an employee’s religious objection to the COVID-19 vaccine. You can read our testimony opposing the draft bill here.

It is currently legal and appropriate that an individual substantiate requests for exemptions, including those stemming from “sincerely held religious beliefs.” The Kansas legislature is going beyond the original intent of religious exemptions by granting personal and political beliefs similar protections as religious objections. This sets an extremely dangerous precedent for our civil rights and opens the door to formally legalize discrimination under the guise of religion in Kansas.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Join us in writing to your legislators before the Special Session begins to let them know that you oppose this effort and the precedent it sets.

Your personal comments are more effective than our boilerplate, and we encourage you to replace our suggested comments below with your own.

Send this message, or write your own. Be brief, and make sure the subject line is clear about your position. On a short timetable, many legislators do not have time to read a long, thoughtful email. And thank you for doing more than just voting!
